We are being told that we should be always studying and learning new job skills for a changing market. I enjoy learning new things, but if we have to spend all our time on job-related stuff, when do we have time for ourselves? When do we have time to be people, not machines whose purpose is to make our CEO rich? When do we have time to have children? Why would we want to bring children into such a world?

And if we are always doing new things, we never have a chance to become really good at what we are doing. So the products and services we use are at best ok, and we don't have the satisfaction that comes from knowing we have produced something useful of excellence and elegance.
