How much change? - updated again

We are being told that we should be always learning and mastering new job skills for a changing market. I enjoy learning new things, but if we have to spend all our time on job-related stuff, when do we have time for ourselves? When do we have time to be people, not machines whose purpose is to make our CEO rich? When do we have time to have children? Why would we want to bring children into such a world?

And if we are always doing new things, we never have a chance to master them. So the products and services we use are at best ok, and we don't have the satisfaction that comes from knowing we have produced something useful of excellence and elegance.

Also, we need free time to be able to research who to vote for. And conservatives say government shouldn't help people, it should be done by volunteers, but that takes time.

And free time is useful for reflective thinking, necessary for growth in wisdom.

Of course, the power elite don't want us to have time to be informed and think things thru.
