Rachel Maddow recounts the fact that during the 1994 Massachusetts Senate race, Mitt Romney demanded that Ted Kennedy disclose his tax returns to prove he has ”nothing to hide.” Kennedy didn’t, so neither did Romney. When running for governor in 2002, his opponent, Shannon O’Brien, released her returns, but Romney again didn’t, claiming that he had come to agree with Kennedy on protecting one's privacy. Strangely, the Romney campaign said in 2002 that he would release his returns if Kennedy–his opponent eight years earlier–did so.
