Phoenix has found yet another way to break heat records.
The Arizona city known for scorching heat has had 35 days in which temperatures reached 110 degrees or more in 2020, breaking a record set there in 2011, KTAR reports.
“We did 33 this year, which was set yesterday, and today we’re probably going to have day 34, which is a record nobody really wants,” meteorologist Andrew Deemer said on Sunday, The Arizona Republic reported. The temperature also reached 110 degrees on Monday.
The previous record of 33 days was set in Phoenix in 2011, and before that stood at 32 days set in 2007, the National Weather Service reported on Twitter.
The month of July also broke heat records for Phoenix, with an average temperature of 99 degrees, KSAZ reported. The old record had been set in July 2009.
