Climate models

Feb. 2, 2020

I saw this excellent comment on the matter of climate models, on Facebook:

There are important factors that are not taken into consideration in models. For example, the release of methane (greenhouse gas) from the melting of the permafrost. That's a secondary effect of climate change which will worsen the situation. Another secondary effect of climate change is the co2 release of extreme weather events like the bushfires in Australia. That's not a part of any model. There are also what I call tertiary effects to climate change. That's the co2 released by human activity in the process of dealing with climate change. When you send a helicopter to drop off carrots so that the wildlife does not die of starvation, that's directly attributable to climate change. When water needs to be trucked to a large number of people in India because the monsoons are disrupted by climate change, that's also something that is not counted in models. When mass migration due to climate change is going to start not too far from now, the co2 release for the transportation of climate change refugees is not going to be part of the models. When category 6 hurricanes are going to hit, the co2 involved in the rescues and cleanups is not going to be counted either. This is why I believe the problem is far worse than currently revealed by models.
