Republicans are receiving a lot of criticism from the general public, over pushes to cut programs that help the poor while simultaneously demanding that the Government give more money to the rich and the wealthy.

Republicans have fought tooth and nail recently to protect the rich, while demanding that the poor shoulder most of the burden of fixing our economy.

Today while discussing whether or not the rich should share the pain of debt reduction, Republican Senator Orrin Hatch made the claim that the poor are the ones who need to do more to shoulder the pain of debt reduction.

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) voted against beginning debate on a measure that would have the Senate declare the rich should share the pain of debt reduction Thursday, a day after arguing that it’s the poor and middle class who need to do more.

“I hear how they’re so caring for the poor and so forth,” Hatch said in remarks on the Senate floor Wednesday, in reference to Democrats. “The poor need jobs! And they also need to share some of the responsibility.”

Since the poor are already the ones who have had to suffer the most through the economic recession and slow recovery, it seems unfair to many people that they would be asked to shoulder even more of the burden of reducing the National Debt.
