Are we getting dumber?

Aug. 8, 2020

People today like to fancy themself smarter than those in the past because we can use technology that some people designed to make it easy for us to use.  But many people can't seem to remember danger after the immediate threat has passed.
I remember several years ago when there was a big tsunami.  As often happens before a tsunami hits, the water receded from the shore.  Many people in modern cultures ran onto the exposed shore, sometimes to harvest what seemed easy pickings of stranded sea life.  They were killed when the tsunami hit.
But some communities which paid attention to traditional stories of previous tsunamis, passed down by oral traditions, sometimes from almost a century ago, knew to run to the hills, and they escaped.
But in our supposedly advanced societies, we can't seem to learn from the lessons of a few months of Covid-19, much less from times before vaccinations.
