It also has a tendency to convey the aspect of virtue.

Hello Patricia,

I've been reading your comments on the Economist's View blog for a while.

I like the "cut of your jib", your take on things.

You've been through some tough times and will, as all of us, even the most smug, go through some more.

Just wanted to say hello.

( You may occasionally misread me- I've a sarcastic view and can sometimes seem to be the opposite of what I really am- hence your confusion regarding my "free market" remarks.)

I was a social services Medi-Cal worker , ( my wife a social worker doing adoptions in the last years, after 20 or so years of CPS interventions), doing outreach work trying to increase Medi-Cal enrollment. I quit after a traumatic episode where I was required to come up with "success stories' regarding Hurricane Katrina refugees- this in one of the wealthiest counties inb California.

I retired- taking advantage of the husing bubble- and am now in Canada, ( my wife a Canadian citizen).

The amount I made from the house, plus our pensions, ( guaranteed by law- of course that can change), is enough right now, thank God.

But I still emember those who are really going through tough times.

Keep standing up. Your remarks are quite to the point, even if they are not "economically" accurate.

true

Thanks for the explanation of some of your comments. They didn't seem consistent :) Sometimes it's hard to tell when someone is being sarcastic, although I think I'm better at it than Anne!

I use my own experience as an example because I know it represents many others. I feel that some people will empathize more when they see that such things can happen to people like them.

Thank you for your service on behalf of the poor. I'm sorry for your experience with a system that tried to get you to compromise on ethics. Good luck to you and wife. At least in Canada, you have universal health care.
