Wasting time
I wasted a lot of time today trying unsuccessfully to put a Facebook "like" button on my blog posts. It got part way there, but I would have had to manually put the blog post address in each post. There is a Blogger setting that is supposed to do it, but it has never worked for me.

try Dashboard > Layout > add a gadget > the 2nd button "more gadgets" > wherein you will find the "share it" gadget...
i havent tried it, but it looks like what others are using..
Thanks, rjs. I have it on my blog page, but don't see a way to put it in individual posts.
There is a setting that is supposed to do that, but it doesn't work for me.
my co-blogger at "reality zone" has such a gadget...i'll ask him how he did it..
Thanks. I found a command to insert in the body of a post which can do it, but I couldn't find out how to get the address of the post to be generated automatically.
I might have a handle on it. I need to get to sleep now. I'll try it out tomorrow.
I found a place in Facebook where I can generate code to insert in my blog html.
And I think I see from looking at the html of the code that doesn't work, how to get the variable name for the name of the post.
I'm thankful for any advice you have, too, since you already have something that is working.
patricia, neither reality zone or his buddy coyote prime can recall how they got that gadget to appear after each post...
i tried searching for how to do it, & have a few links to methods that look like they'd work to me...

i assume you know to save your template before trying any of those...
RZ just remembered...it's so simple you'll kick yourself...
go to lay out
depending on the template there should be a blog post big box.
in that big blog post box is an edit box.
hit that edit box
inside that edit box
put a check mark in the share box.
thats it.
Thanks, rjs. I have had that box checked, but the buttons don't appear. When I was looking for how to get it to work, I saw a reference to sometimes if you have modified your template it can cause a problem. My last resort would be to tell it to go back to the standard template. It's not like I put in anything exotic.
I did save my template, since I want to try the code I got from Facebook, when I have time and am on a faster internet connection than at home.
