Earlier this year – the House Republicans proposed major cuts in the free lunch program; they proposed major cuts in child care assistance, and child abuse and prevention services. Republicans proposed cutting fresh fruit from the diets of school kids because “we can’t afford it” . House Republicans were against the Violence Against Women Act because we couldn’t afford to reauthorize spending on rape crisis centers and other protections for abused women; they finally passed a watered down bill to avoid political embarrassment. But somehow with all of those cuts and more we can afford to spend what is reported to be as much as $100 million of the American taxpayer’s money to build a 5 story air force complex for the Israelis in Tel Aviv, Israel. And if you know anything about military budgets – that means it’s going to be probably double or triple that.
