Why science is important to us

I remember awhile back when there was a lot of publicity about the fact that U.S. students rank low on science and math tests in comparison with many other developed countries. Some people said, so what, most people don't use them in every day life. I said they are important when choosing who to vote for. Of course, that still applies. And they are important in our everyday lives, eg., when we judge what health information to accept and act on. We are really seeing this now with all the misinformation about Covid-19.
