Computers writing stories

NPR just had an item about how computers have been programmed to write stories, but they aren't interesting, and that's supposed to be a problem. There are plenty of interesting books and stories already written, and that will be written, by humans, that no one can read all of them. Why in the world is it a "problem" if a computer can't produce a good story?
