Noe Iniguez is the first person sentenced to jail under California's new revenge porn law.

The 36-year-old from Los Angeles was sentenced to a year in jail on Monday for posting a topless photo of his ex-girlfriend on her employer's Facebook page in December 2013. The photo was captioned with derogatory words such as "drunk" and "slut."

Iniguez will also be given 36 months of probation and will have to attend domestic violence counseling.

"California's new revenge porn law gives prosecutors a valuable tool to protect victims whose lives and reputations have been upended by a person they once trusted," said City Attorney Mike Feuer in a press release. His office had sought a jail sentence in the case.

"This conviction sends a strong message that this type of malicious behavior will not be tolerated," Feuer said.

Iniguez was found guilty of three criminal counts. Aside from the state revenge porn statute, he had two restraining order violations. His ex-girlfriend had already secured a restraining order against him when he sent her harassing text messages after they broke up in November 2013.

California's revenge porn law was enacted in October 2013, and it forbids people from posting sexual photos online with the intent to cause emotional harm.
