Welfare for the rich - terrorism insurance

Business says they need the U.S. government to ensure them against terrorist attacks, to avoid risk and uncertainty.
But they justify huge profits as being a reward for risk-taking.

But they oppose the government helping reduce risk and uncertainty for workers, such as unemployment insurance, and worker protections, such as the Fair Workweek Initiative, which I cover in my next blog post.

Senate votes to renew terrorism insurance

By Ramsey Cox - 07/17/14

The Senate voted 93-4 Thursday to extend a terrorism insurance program that business groups say provides a critical backstop in the event of a catastrophic attack.

The bill would extend the program, which was created in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, for seven years.

The fight over the terrorism insurance now shifts to the House, where Republicans are divided over whether the program should be changed to shift more of the financial risk to insurers.
