ANGOLA, La. - A Louisiana District Court judge has vacated the murder conviction and death sentence of Glenn Ford, and ordered his release from the state's maximum security prison at Angola, where he spent the past 30 years.
Ford, 64, has been on death row since 1984. Gary Clements and Aaron Novod, attorneys for Ford from the Capital Post Conviction Project of Louisiana, said in a news release Tuesday that he was expected to be released within hours. Prison officials would not give information on the expected time of Ford's release.
The state's motion to vacate Ford's conviction was based on new information that corroborated his claim that he was not present or involved in the 1983 murder of Isadore Rozeman, a Shreveport jeweler and watchmaker for whom he did occasional yard work.

For years, Ford's attorneys had argued Ford was wrongfully convicted after a trial in which he had inexperienced counsel and information was wrongfully suppressed.
