Lies People Say

Moderates and liberals are continually outraged and surprised about the blatant lies the Republican power elite come up with. They are outrageous, but not surprising. They use proven psychological tactics, some that apply in general, some specific to conservatives.

In general, once a person has a belief, it is almost impossible for them to change it, no matter how much proof there is that it is wrong. So the liars will jump out of the gate with a lie that they expect will help them, to try to get it accepted by as many people as possible before the truth comes out. This is helped by the fact that many people get their "news" mostly from the right-wing media, and thus never hear the truth anyway.

It has been shown, by studying reactions in the brain, that self-described conservatives on average have a stronger fear response than self-described liberals. Recent research has found that if a fact is too scary, conservatives will simply block it from belief, or at least ignore it, deciding there is nothing that can be done. Thus they are still being manipulated to deny global warming, despite the increasing effects on themselves. These Republican/conservative lies are a deliberate strategy to manipulate people.

That doesn't mean every conservative who propagates these lies realize this. Many have themselves been fooled, as David Brock recounts of himself in his book "Blinded by the Right."
