How to get rich

The Barnes and Noble bookstore that is closest to me is closing at the end of June. Of course, with the recession, they have fewer customers than they used to, but they were not planning on closing the store - until the owner of the shopping mall raised the rent at the beginning of the year. Of course, B&N tried to get them to not do so, but to no avail. I noticed that there is already a large empty space at another part of the mall where there used to be one or two stores. One (much smaller than B&N) has relocated. But B&N will simply close this store. I don't blame B&N, I'm sure it wouldn't be worth it to re-open, given the decline in business and the size of the store they would have to acquire, and the costs of moving everything.

From what people have heard, it appears that the owner wants to lose money on this property because he can then use it to offset taxes on other property. So for the sake of getting even richer by paying fewer taxes, he is causing the loss of the jobs that the store has provided. And the state of Georgia decreased the length of unemployment benefits in the state legislative session that ended recently.

According to a sign on the building, it belongs to Isakson-Barnhart Properites.

Romney claims "everybody" tries to keep their taxes to an absolute minimum, but that is not true. Many of us have voluntarily checked off choices on our state tax forms contributing part or all of our tax refund to go to things we felt are worthy causes, such as wildlife conservation, land conservation, helping children and the elderly. But you would have to be a decent human being to understand why someone would do something like that.
